Summertime, Summertime, Summertime, Summertime
It’s Summertime. Finally. “Sorry teacher, but zip your lip,” is the way the Jamies sang it so many years ago. It’s time for swimming, and dancing, and “to live and have some thrills”. Click to hear the song.
Friday morning, with our neighbors, the Lights, we launched kayaks onto the Sheepscot for a 90-minute paddle. The water was smooth as glass. The Osprey sang and the fish did a little jumpin’. It really felt like the summer is here, especially since the temperatures are into the mid-to-upper 80s, with even a whisper of 90. this week.
Blueberries are ready for picking. Down by the swimming pond, Donna’s been harvesting high bush and low bush berries (larger, smaller). She then whipped up a Blueberry cake which, when accompanied by the award-winning Gifford’s French Vanilla was out of this world.
Just so you don’t get the idea it’s all playtime here, I’ve had the lawnmower to the shop three times in the past ten days. Nothing serious, a belt slips out of a track, but then the self-propel feature doesn’t propel. Over the winter, of course, branches and twigs fall and so it seems I do as much mulching as mowing. It doesn’t like to do mulching. It stops. Of course mowing’s not urgent right now. The northern part of the state is in severe drought snd here in Midcoast, we’re dry too.
In other news ... Luc the Briard got his haircut at Salty Dog in Wiscasset. Lindsay, the groomer, did a great job, really thinned out the boy’s coat so he’ll be more comfortable with the hot weather.
And under the heading “You can’t keep good woman’s team down,” there’s an event here Thursday evening (5pm-630pm). The Town has given Lucia Droby the green light to organize a “Walk Around Wiscasset”. This is the next best thing to the Wiscasset Art Walk, but because of the Virus, well ... you know. Retail shops, art galleries, eateries including Red’s, Sarah’s, Mammy’s will be open and serving.
Droby is encouraging fancy dress and hats and social distancing, of course. Lots of moving along and strolling, please - no congregating :)
