Jerri Whitman art exhibit at Rising Tide Cafe
Rising Tide Co-op, located at 323 Main St. in Damariscotta is pleased to announce they will be displaying art by local artist Jerri Whitman Aug. 2-29.. In an effort to continue maintaining social distancing recommendation, art space will be limited.
Whitman, born in Dyer County, Tennessee, became interested in drawing during elementary school. Inspired by a teacher who encouraged Whitman to develop her artistic talents, she continued to study art throughout high school.
After moving to Maine, Whitman resumed painting in 2009. She worked in acrylic, colored pencil and graphite, and completed many commissioned works during this time. In 2013 Whitman discovered soft pastels and fell in love with this medium.
During 2014 Whitman was juried into the Pastel Society of America as an Associate member. She was juried into the state-wide show, ARTinME in October 2014 when she received honorable mention for her pastel painting "Going Home."
Whitman has served on the board of trustees at Boothbay Region Art Foundation since 2012. In January 2015 she served on the board of trustees as recording secretary for the Pastel Society of Maine. Currently, she is the coordinator for “Pastel Pics” IAPS 2017 (International Association of Pastel Societies).
