Keeping Westport Island healthy: An update
To help keep Westport Island healthy, the town now has touchless hand sanitizer dispensers and public health posters available for island businesses who have walk-up customers. The dispensers come with a first fill of hand sanitizer by local producer Split Rock Distilling and are funded by a Keeping Maine Healthy/COVID-19 Awareness grant. Dispensers are already in operation at the town hall and at Crossroads Coffee Beans. Contact Deputy EMA Director Gaye Wagner @gdwagner1@gmail.com for more information.
The grant from Maine Department of Economic and Community Development has already funded the technology that allowed Westport Island to hold its annual town meeting on the island in compliance with the governor’s orders limiting each gathering space to 50 people. It has also funded an awning for an outside, walk-up business window for the municipal agent to handle vehicle, boat and ATV registrations as well as other town business.
Additional COVID-19 awareness activities will include touchless hand sanitizing dispensers and educational posters at public buildings and educational posters at the public boat landing and public lands.
