Alna’s town clerk resigns anew
Last month, Alna announced its town clerk Liz Brown was resigning, then Brown withdrew her resignation “for the foreseeable future.” Friday, Second Selectman Doug Baston, who helped convince Brown to stay the other time, confirmed to Wiscasset Newspaper that Brown has resigned for good, will finish as clerk in early September and will move out of the area with her husband, former selectman Butch Brown.
In a phone interview after selectmen’s executive session Friday morning, Baston said Brown’s plans were the personnel matter the executive session concerned. Brown’s decision had nothing to do with town politics, Baston said. “This is a life change” the Browns are making, he said.
“My husband and I will be moving out of the area and pursuing new ventures,” Brown wrote in her Wednesday, Aug. 19 resignation letter Baston provided at Wiscasset Newspaper’s request. “My experience working for the town of Alna has been rewarding and I am thankful for the opportunity to have worked here and served the people in our town,” she wrote.
According to the letter, the resignation takes effect Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Baston said he will miss Brown as clerk and miss the couple as friends and citizens. “But I think it’s wonderful that they’re sort of having a new life start.”
The board will advertise for a clerk, Baston said. Town office hours are unchanged, he said. Alna has two deputy clerks, Linda Verney and Lynette Eastman.
