Wedding
In my 40 plus years of photographing hundreds of weddings, I’ve met thousands of people from all over the world. It’s been an amazing ride. Walking into an enormous gathering of people with little more than my camera gear, in many cases knowing no one, can be pretty exhilarating. You can’t begin to imagine the things I've seen! Perhaps you’d prefer not to.
But as I get some years on me, or as my old buddy Franklyn Lenthall used to say, “a bit long in the tooth,” I am doing fewer weddings. Some of this has to do with the fact that there is now an over abundance of wedding photographers. Not to mention the amazing advances in technology, and cellphones! Hard to keep those little gems, with their attached arms, out of the frame. And, the demand for old bearded bald photographers doesn’t quite get it with the newer generation of brides and grooms.
No videos, drones or multiple camera operators in my repertoire. Just me.
Many big weddings today are extravagant productions costing tens of thousands of dollars. Highly choreographed productions which take wedding parties on long cocktail-hour posing adventures, missing visits with friends and family. Nope! No MGM productions with me.
So when I got a call from Trish Fallon at the Boothbay Harbor Town office to see if I could photograph (very short notice) a very small wedding at Ocean Point, I said , “Yes!” Right in my wheelhouse. Simple, not a lot of fanfare, just two nice people, helped by the Chief of Police (above and beyond the call of duty), and Diane Joyal. They were witnesses and umbrella holders. Trish officiated. It was wonderful, and pouring! Uncle Bob Fallon sent his regards, but chose to remain at home.
As we all struggle with new normals and challenges, this was such a refreshing event. It reminded me of a graceful simplicity that seems to have wandered off. Congratulations and best wishes. Many years of happiness Lisa and Troy. Thank you for sharing your special day with us.
Let's hope your rainy wedding on the coast of Maine will bring good luck in the days ahead. Blessings.
