Dresden fire dampened by cracked water pipe
No one was hurt May 7 in a fire confined to a home’s basement at 729 Middle Rd. in Dresden, fire officials said.
A neighbor reported the fire shortly before 11 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the fire was mostly out because the heat from it had cracked a water pipe, which then leaked, Richmond Fire Chief Matt Roberge said at the scene.
“It was dumb luck,” he said.
Fire crews from Dresden, Pittston, Wiscasset, West Bath, Bowdoin and Bowdoinham responded to the scene.
Homeowner Robert Armstrong said he, his wife and their four children have lived in the house for about a year. No one was home at the time of the fire.
The fire marshal’s office was continuing to investigate for a cause, Dresden Fire Chief Gerald Lilly said Tuesday evening.
