Select board makes Dunning chairman
The Wiscasset select board picked Pam Dunning as its new chairman Wednesday evening, Sept. 9 at Wiscasset Community Center. The board also set aside Oct. 6 to hold a special town meeting.
Town Manager Dennis Simmons told the board the town meeting is to address a $5,888 overdraft in last year’s police budget and consider changes to the shoreland zoning ordinance. That article was inadvertently left off the warrant for the Sept. 8 annual municipal election. Copies of the ordinance are available at the town office.
The town meeting will be held before the board’s regular meeting that evening. No time or location was announced; the board has been recently meeting at 5 p.m. in the WCC gymnasium.
The board picked Katharine Martin-Savage as its vice chair.
Simmons said preparations are underway for setting the tax commitment. He said he would have financial information to share at the board’s Tuesday Sept. 15 meeting. “Town revenues are holding up but there is a lot of uncertainty as far as what the town will receive in state revenues,” he commented.
Simmons said the board may need to dip into its undesignated fund balance to forego an increase in the tax rate.
In other business, the board accepted a $75,000 FAA grant to carry out a wildlife hazard assessment site visit and installation of perimeter fencing at Wiscasset Municipal Airport.
