A small town newspaper
We are a small town newspaper that happens to be in the middle of a pandemic. We have been in business since 1876. The first issue was about the size of an 8” x 11” brochure and only four pages. We eventually grew into a broadsheet – about 15” x 23” per half sheet – with varying numbers of pages each week over the years. We have even had a daily website for about a decade.
During the past few months, we needed to consolidate our two print products, the Register and Wiscasset Newspaper, in order to save the money lost due to a downturn in our advertising. Several businesses could not support us due to the pandemic and we understood that.
As we say on our History listing on the website, “Our main goal has always been to keep readers up to date on the people, places and events that form our community.”
With not having the extra reporting resources we have had the luxury of having during the past few years over the past six months, our small, full-time staff has worked hard at bringing you the news as well as possible. Working remotely and covering meetings, getting board decisions, and contacting people by email or phone has been tedious.
We are doing our best to bring you up to date on the people, places and events in our communities. We hope you stick with us because we depend on you and hopefully you depend on us.
