Skidompha Library and Book Shop updates
To help protect volunteers, customers, and donors from the spread of the novel coronavirus in Maine, the Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop in downtown Damariscotta is closing for now, effective at the end of the day on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
At the same time, Skidompha Library is ending its browse-and-borrow schedule, and will revert to its earlier practice of curbside pick-up only. The library will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Curbside-only will begin on Friday.
According to Matthew Graff, executive director of the library, “We make these changes with great sadness, and with deep appreciation for our library staff and patrons, and for our bookshop volunteers, customers, and donors. Everyone has been supportive and patient as we have tried to maintain our important service to the community. Above all, we’re concerned for the safety of everyone associated with the library, and their families and friends.
“We’ll continue to monitor the situation,” he added. “We’ll re-open the book shop and return to our regular library services as soon as it is safe and sensible for us to do so.”
For curbside pick-up, request books online or by phone call to 563-5513. The library sends a notification when the books are ready. Drive to the back door. A staff member will meet you outside the door and will bring the books to you. Pick-up is available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m to 6 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Currently, the Interlibrary Loan program is still in effect.
Both the library and the book shop closed in mid-March. Later in the summer, the library opened for limited service; the book shop opened on August 1. Public meeting rooms in the library remain closed.
