Pemaquid
Recently I was asked to take my clothes off four times. This is not a common occurrence although it wasn't the first time! The awkward part was being asked to to do this for different people in different rooms, then to drape myself in what medical folks refer to as a “johnny.” For anyone who has not tried this, please do not feel left out. Looping a cloth string behind your neck and down behind your back is exasperating. Tying my shoes can still frustrate me, especially with laces made from some foreign material that constantly slips loose. I guess that is why, back in the day, I used rawhide laces on my Redwing work boots, knotted, then looped into hooks, bypassing the lacing process.
Walking around in this fluffy sheet was, well, revealing, to say the least. Seldom seen parts of me were on public display as I waddled around the facility. Park your humility at the door, please. Access to the nether world! All for the greater good.
Between clothing change 3 and 4, I had an hour and a half to kill. Time for a little treat. So off to the Rising Tide went I for a bottle of the bubbly (water) and some sort of tuna deal wrapped in a flexible roll. With little left from my ten spot I headed out the door and off to one of my favorite points of land, Pemaquid, with its landmark lighthouse and bold rocky oceanfront. Would that I had a nickel for every time I photographed that location. But it had been a while and I was excited to visit.
My last trip to the Point was to photograph a Texas wedding party and family hell bent on a Maine lighthouse experience. At least I didn't have to fit everyone into the top of the light as had been the case in a previous wedding – an intimate event! My Texas group was thrilled as was I.
The cool thing about Pemaquid Point is what I feel is its spiritualism. It is everything wrapped into one swell package of unique zen. The rocks are extraordinary. The quality of light at practically any time of day, and wonderful buildings located at ocean’s edge. I could have spent the entire day there without hesitation, but I needed to get back for my final wardrobe fitting of the day.
Pemaquid was the highlight of my adventure and nobody needed to watch me struggle with my johnny!
