Dr. Nananda Col to talk about ticks in Maine
With warmer temperatures on the way and more time spent outdoors, it is important to think about protecting yourself against ticks! On Thursday, April 1 at 6 p.m., Kennebec Estuary Land Trust (KELT) is pleased to host physician and Georgetown resident, Dr. Nananda Col, to answer common questions about ticks in Maine. Join us for this virtual presentation to gain answers to questions such as: Are ticks different sizes at different times of year? What types of bug spray provide the best protection against ticks? How many different types of diseases can ticks carry? What should you do if you find a tick on you? How is Lyme disease treated? Ask additional questions when registering or during the event’s question and answer portion.
Dr. Col has firsthand experience with ticks after catching two tick-borne diseases due to not taking tick precautions while mushroom foraging. Now, she shares presentations with local groups about things people can do to protect themselves from ticks and tick-borne diseases. Dr. Col is also part of a group of Georgetown citizens working together to identify ways to control tick populations on the island.
Registration is free and required in order to receive the Zoom link for the presentation. The Zoom link will be sent out to registrants before the event. For more information and to sign-up, visit KELT’s website at www.kennebecestuary.org/upcoming-events or call (207) 442-8400.
