10 businesses trained to prevent underage drinking, next training May 19
In April, 15 people from ten local businesses received training that provided them with tools to help reduce underage drinking and drunk driving. The Responsible Alcohol Seller/Server Training is sponsored by the Healthy Lincoln County Substance Use Prevention Partnership, and taught by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Rand Maker and Deputy Mark Bridgham.
Due to increased demand, another Alcohol Seller/Server virtual training is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All of Lincoln County’s liquor licensed businesses are welcome. Registration is online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/MayRBS
The training covers Maine’s liquor laws and best practices for managing an establishment that serves or sells alcohol. Additional topics include handling a visibly intoxicated patron, spotting fake IDs, proper serving sizes and amounts, and much more. New this year, the training also covers the recent changes made to Maine’s liquor laws related to COVID-19.
“Maine’s liquor laws are complex, and this training covered what businesses and staff can do to ensure they’re complying with the law. With the addition of curbside sales and checking IDs with face masks, we want to make sure businesses have all the information they need to be in compliance,” said Kate Martin, Healthy Lincoln County’s director.
On behalf of Healthy Lincoln County and the Lincoln County Sherriff’s Office, thank you to the following businesses for attending April’s training: Barn Door Baking, Damariscotta River Grill, Harbor Theater, The Narrows Tavern, Coveside Restaurant and Marina, Glidden Point Oyster Farms, the Sea Basket, Taste of Orient Restaurant, Water Street Kitchen and Bar, and Kaler’s Restaurant.
