Wiscasset Middle High School is immensely pleased to announce that nine seniors in the Class of 2021 have earned the distinction of being a “Top Scholar.” To be recognized as a “Top Scholar,” a senior must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.  

Valedictorian Gwenyth C. Webber is the daughter of Heather and Chris Webber of Westport Island. Her many accomplishments at WMHS include the Wesleyan College Book Award for demonstrating academic leadership; the St. Michael's College Book Award for Academic Achievement and Social Conscience; attending the Maine Youth Leadership Seminar her sophomore year; participating in the Keller BLOOM Program at Bigelow Laboratories for Ocean Sciences and she was the class president her freshman through senior years.

Webber also excelled at soccer and track, earning numerous Mountain Valley Conference titles. She was active in clubs, especially student council and National Honor Society. In the fall, she plans to attend Bowdoin College in Brunswick, where she will major in biochemistry with plans to earn a doctorate of pharmacy.

Salutatorian John M. Hodson is the son of Kelly and Michael Hodson of Wiscasset. His passion for engineering earned him a Certificate of Recognition from the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Maine for demonstrating high academic standards in a broad range of studies, and intellectual curiosity and achievement in and beyond the classroom, and he was named Engineering and Architecture Design Student of the Semester at Bath Regional Career & Technical Center.  He has been an avid musician, playing the trombone in band, district honors band and jazz band. He was awarded the Patrick S. Gilmore Band Award. In addition, he is the bassist at Woolwich-Wiscasset Baptist Church.

Hodson was an active, multifaceted member of the school drama club, and served on student council his senior year. He played soccer, tennis and track throughout his high school career. He plans to attend University of Maine in Orono pursuing a degree in electrical engineering.

Paige R. Davenport is the daughter of Heather and William Davenport of Wiscasset. She was a dedicated athlete, playing soccer and basketball her freshman through junior years. She focused her senior year on her career interest, health sciences. Her determination earned her student of the semester at Bath Regional Career & Technical Center her junior year and admission to the National Technical Honors Society for Health Science Careers her senior year.  

Davenport will continue her studies of human biology at University of Southern Maine, entering the pre-medical program.

Christiana E. Easter is the daughter of Sarah Easter of Wiscasset. She has enjoyed being athletic, either on the soccer field or cheering the teams on. She shared her passion for cheerleading as a volunteer youth coach for three years and has worked at Sheepscot Valley Children’s House.    

An active member in band and jazz band, playing the flute, Easter also served on student council. She received the Williams College Book Award for academic achievement and contributions to the extracurricular life of the school. She will attend University of New England in the fall to study nursing.

Brian Foye is the son of Lisa and Trevor Foye of Wiscasset. He played baseball and soccer his freshman through junior years, and served on student council in grades 10, 11 and 12 and prom committee his junior year.

Foye’s dedication to his studies earned him the St. Michael's College Book Award for Academic Achievement and Social Conscience. He will attend Maine Maritime Academy in the fall to pursue a degree in power engineering operations.

Eliza G. Paradis is the daughter of Shaye and Wayne Paradis of Wiscasset. She is a talented alto saxophone player, having played in the district honors band and jazz band her freshman through senior years. She has received the John Philip Sousa Band Award and the Patrick S. Gilmore Band Award. She also received the Wellesley College Book Award for academic achievement and being a visible member of the school and community.   

Paradis has been a skilled athlete. She played soccer and tennis throughout high school. In her junior and senior years, she served on the prom committee, yearbook staff and student council. Her plans include University of Maine Farmington in the fall.

Ryan D. Potter is the son of Karen and Roy Potter of Edgecomb. He excelled at baseball all four years of high school. His senior year, he was accepted into National Honor Society and participated in student council.  

During his junior year, Potter completed an emergency medical technician class and obtained certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. He also completed a mentorship program at Wiscasset Ambulance Service. Upon graduation, he will continue working as a Wiscasset EMT while pursuing his paramedic license. 

Brooke Alanna Thayer is the daughter of Teresa and Hallis Thayer II of Whitefield. She excelled in cheerleading her freshman through junior years, joining the Wiscasset squad as well as the All-Star team, Central Maine Elite. She also played the clarinet for three years.   

Thayer’s interest in the health sciences led to her being accepted into the National Technical Honors Society at Bath Regional Career & Technical Center her senior year.  She will attend University of Maine at Augusta to pursue an associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology and a bachelor’s degree in biology.

Lily Collean Yeaton is the daughter of Jodie and Milton Yeaton of Wiscasset. A focused athlete, she participated in cross country all four years of high school.  She also joined the swim team her junior year. She loved to volunteer at The Morris Farm, and she earned the Smith College Book Award junior year for exemplifying academic achievement, leadership qualities and concern for others.

Yeaton served as class vice president during her junior year, and was a member of the outing club, student council, prom committee and National Honor Society.  She plans to attend University of Maine in Orono majoring in anthropology.
