Linda Jones passed away peacefully on May 30, 2021 at her home in Boothbay Harbor at the age of 83. Linda spent summers on Capitol Island from childhood until she and her deceased husband Bob retired to Boothbay Harbor after raising a family in their hometown of Belmont, Massachusetts.

Linda Marie (Giles) Jones was born in Boston, Mass. in 1938 and grew up in Belmont, where she met her husband and life-long companion Bob Jones in elementary school. She attended the University of Maine at Orono. Upon graduation, she taught elementary school before returning to Belmont and becoming a full-time mother to her three sons, the Rev. David Grishaw-Jones, Allan Jones, and attorney Robert Jones, as well as being an invaluable partner to her husband as he built a real estate development business in Cambridge, Mass.

Jones and her husband retired to their longtime summer home of Boothbay Harbor, Maine in the 1990s and enjoyed life on the ocean. They also traveled to many parts of the world including Russia, China, the South Pacific, and many of the places in between, including Bermuda where they traveled to for their honeymoon and returned to on an almost annual basis. Linda and Bob touched many lives in the area, notably supporting the Boothbay Region Land Trust and the preservation and restoration of the Boothbay Opera House.

In later years, her nine grandchildren and many friends, as well as unexpected Red Sox championships, brought great joy.

Besides her late husband, Mrs. Jones leaves three sons, David and wife Kate of Dover, New Hampshire, and Allan of Belmont, Mass. and Rob Jones and wife Cindy Estes, also of Belmont, Mass.; her grandchildren Claire, Fiona and Hannah Grishaw-Jones, Nick and Sofie Jones, and Ben, Eliza, Nate, and Tilly Jones; and her two brothers, John Giles and his wife Sarah of Boston, Mass. and Richard Giles and partner Chun-Li Wu of Andover, Mass. Her family would also like to acknowledge the long-time caretakers and, in later years, nursing professionals who enabled Linda to live a happy and peaceful life in her home until the end of her life.

A memorial service will be held later this summer in Boothbay Harbor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor (https://www.congochurchbbh.org/)
