Learn online about food bank farms, gleaning in Lincoln County
On Wednesday, June 23 at 6 p.m. Lincoln County Food Council will host an online event, “Food Bank Farms and Gleaning in Lincoln County,” an education session about food bank farms and gleaning programs that provide local produce and increase food security. This event is open to anyone curious about these farms or looking for a new volunteer opportunity.
The event will feature presentations by Megan Taft of Twin Villages Foodbank Farm, Erica Berman of Veggies to Table foodbank farm, and Mary Kate Reny of Lincoln County Gleaners. Each presenter will describe their unique approach, how they interact with the community, and how the public might participate as volunteers. After panel presentations, there will be a question and answer portion open to all participants.
"There is so much good work going on in Lincoln County bringing local products to more people, and I hope this event will highlight that work and connect more volunteers,” said event organizer Merry Fossel, local food security advocate and participant in Lincoln County Food Council. Volunteer opportunities include fieldwork, harvesting, sorting, transporting, storing and processing food to increase access to nutritious locally grown produce for members of our community. This online event is a great opportunity to learn more about how these food security programs work, to get involved, or simply to see beautiful photos of the farms!
