Edgecomb keeps Pinkham as CEO
After a brief executive session, Edgecomb selectmen appointed interim Code Enforcement Officer Jarrod Pinkham to a full one-year appointment June 28. Pinkham replaced Ken Vinyl in March. Selectman Mike Smith wanted to address a few important issues facing the code enforcement job prior to re-appointing Pinkham which led to the 10-minute executive session. Selectmen also made several other appointments including two new board of appeals members. Selectmen unanimously appointed George Chase and Heather Burt. The board re-appointed Robert Leone constable, Bill Witzell emergency management agency director, and Roland Abbott deputy EMA director. Selectmen are still looking to fill seats on the Schmid advisory board, shellfish committee and harbor master.
Earlier in June, selectmen sought a legal opinion about the validity of two recent condominium sales. Selectmen contacted the Eaton Peabody law firm who responded to recent sales of two cabins at a complex known as “Gateway Races,” on the corner of U.S. Route 1 and Route 27. Smith reported what Eaton Peabody discovered about the sales. “This is a change of use and unless the sale violated the condominium’s subdivision rules, there is no issue,” he said.
In other action, selectmen received an easement request from Irving and Melissa Locke who want to bring power to their McKay Road property. The Lockes made a request after Central Maine Power and municipal tax collector Jon O’Donnell researched who owned the abutting property where the pole was located. Both CMP and O’Donnell reported the town owned the property. Selectmen indicated they favored granting the easement, but wanted to research the ownership further. Selectmen are also contemplating how to dispose of the Stephenson property. In 2017, the town acquired the Gleason Road property owned by the Stephenson Family Trust. A lien was placed on the property in 2017 to recoup legal fees after the trust failed to abide by a court-ordered consent agreement. Selectmen foreclosed on the property due to non-payment of over $18,000. Selectmen had an agenda item for discussing abutter notification. Instead, selectmen tabled discussion.
Selectmen approved a bookkeeping measure regarding a fire department account. Town Clerk Claudia Coffin reported in Fiscal Year 20, the department overspent the account by $8,506. Selectmen approved carrying forward the amount and using funds from the fire department’s reserve account to cover the cost.
Selectmen meet next at 6 p.m. Monday, July 12 in the town hall.
