Louis G. Landry
Louis G. “Lou” Landry, 86, of Ocean Point, Boothbay passed away peacefully on Sept. 30, 2021, in the family home. To Lou, Ocean Point was the most beautiful place on earth.
Early in his career, Lou worked at the shipyards, first in East Boothbay and later at Bath Iron Works where he retired in 2000 after over 20 years of employment. His years after retirement were spent mostly at his home studio, Ocean Point Woodturning, where he created remarkable wooden bowls, vases, and various other fine handcrafted wood products. All who knew Lou appreciated that everything he did was from his passion for fine craftsmanship, particularly bowl turning.
Lou was also active in sports. Over the years, he participated in running, racquetball, tennis and golf.
Lou was predeceased by his beautiful wife of 62 years, Marilyn Ava Flint, a lifelong native of Ocean Point.
Lou and Marilyn leave five children: William Landry (Patricia Redmond) of Kennebunk, Maine; Linda Spang (Austin) of Bristol, Rhode Island; Karen McIlwain (Scott) of Portland, Maine; Lisa Landry of Florida; and Thomas Landry (Bette) of Boothbay. Lou is also survived by five grandchildren: Anastacia Southland (Peter); Hal Spang; Alexis Valdes (Andres); Dalton McIlwain; and Katherine Landry. Lou was delighted to meet his first great-grandchild, Elliot James Southland, shortly before he passed.
There will be a small ceremony and an open house at Lou’s studio and workshop in Ocean Point. His work will be displayed before his gallery closing. Both events will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6 starting at 1 p.m.
