Music Doing Good returns to Midcoast
Texas-based Music Doing Good returns for the fifth year to the Midcoast area to raise friends and funds for local charities through a series of concert events.
Music Doing Good is a nonprofit whose mission is to inspire and transform lives through innovative, music-based programming and world-class concert events.
The organization has performed and raised funds for a number of charities in Maine, including the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and their Youth Gardening Program, Chocolate Church Arts Center and The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor.
Concert schedule
Friday, July 26, 7:30 p.m., The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor: New American Songbook.
Music Doing Good delivers a musical trip down memory lane. Featuring very special guest, Delfeayo Marsalis, Music Doing Good core artists dust off many of America’s beloved classics and give them a modern twist across multiple musical genres.
Audience members will be moved to tap their feet, hum and even sing along, as we reminisce about the “Golden Age” of American music. Music Doing Good donates time and talent to the Opera House, so that 100 percent of ticket sales benefit the venue.
Wednesday, July 31, 2 p.m., Longcreek Youth Development Center: Voices of Freedom.
Voices of Freedomcelebrates the American dream and our shared history of struggles for freedom. From music popular during U.S. military conflicts to songs inspired by the Civil and human rights movements, Music Doing Good core artists and special musical guests will connect to our inherent, collective patriotism and a deeper understanding of our basic human birthright.
This concert serves as a friend and fundraiser to sustain the important and valuable work of The Longcreek Development Center in South Portland
Tuesday, August 6, (August 7 rain date), 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., KIWI Airport Wiscasset: Wings Over Wiscasset: Voices of Freedom.
This free, family-friendly day is dedicated to educating, inspiring and creating community. Wings Over Wiscasset combines interactive experiences with history, aeronautics, music and science. Children and adults alike will hear presentations from and interact with the pilots who served our country in aerial combat.
These pilots will fly a variety of World War II aircraft in a vintage air show. Attendees can tour the airplane hangars and learn about the type and function of each Warbird. Veterans will also be in attendance to share their experiences serving in the armed forces.
The afternoon also includes an antique car parade and a presentation by Wiscasset Historic Homes. Other activities specifically designed for children include a pancake breakfast, Mad Science activities, and arts and crafts.
This “history made fun” event culminates in a reprisal of Voices of Freedom by Music Doing Good. Directly following the concert, Wings Over Wiscasset ends with a brilliant display of fireworks.
Wings Over Wiscasset is presented by Music Doing Good and Texas Flying Legends Museum. Local sponsors include KIWI Wiscasset Airport, town of Wiscasset and Wiscasset Area Chamber of Commerce. All proceeds from sponsorships, concession sales, and the “bucket bridgade” for individual donations goes directly to Maine Aeronautics Association, Wiscasset Parks & Recreation Department and Not-Here.me Justice in Action Program.
The Texas Flying Legends Museum (TFLM), housed at Ellington Field in Houston, Texas, is dedicated to honoring past generations and inspiring the leaders of tomorrow through the active display of WWII Warbirds.
Highlighting the drivers behind America’s success, our programs serve to remind us of the values and freedoms that make our country great and to challenge visitors to give back to their local communities. The Texas Flying Legends Warbirds present at the event include Dakota Kid II (P-51D Mustang), The Aleutian Tiger (P-40K Warhawk) and Whistling Death (FG-1D Corsair).
