Veggies to Table needs volunteers, items for farm
Veggies to Table, a non-profit farm in Newcastle which donates top-quality organic produce to our neighbors experiencing hunger and flowers to create joy, needs your help!
After a long, busy season growing and donating 14,000+ pounds of fresh produce and thousands of flowers, we are still going strong but could use a helping hand.
Leaves and wood chips for the farm: We seek leaves and wood chips to mulch the farm. They will keep our soil healthy and warm, cut down on weeds, and prevent erosion —thus enabling us to grow and donate even more food and flowers.
Volunteer opportunities
Harvesting help: We are busily harvesting carrots, parsnips, turnips, kale, and watermelon radish. Join us to get this beautiful bounty harvested, washed, packed and feeding those in need.
Planting garlic: Over 1250 cloves will be planted very soon. The job will be so much quicker as a team!
Digging and dividing dahlias: They are gorgeous and plentiful, — they are a project. This will be our last hurrah—we have hundreds of dahlias needing to be dug and divided. As they say, many hands will make light work.
A truck to transport straw: Along with leaves and wood chips we use straw to tuck in our beds. Brunswick is the closest place we have found to buy our bales but delivery is not available. As we don’t have a truck we could use a hand picking them up. Even if you can’t fit them all, as a team we will get it done. Anyone who knows of a closer source we are all ears.
Putting the farm to bed: We can use assistance making the farm ready for winter.
Indoor help: If the outdoors is not your thing, we have many opportunities in the office. You can work virtually or in person on a variety of things from event planning, fundraising, and marketing to developing programs, writing press releases and grants, and community outreach.
We look forward to hearing from you if you have time, energy, interest and, of course, leaves you would normally throw out or bring to the transfer station! Our goal— to feed those living in the crisis of hunger nutritious produce and spread flower joy along the way.
