What is the rush to change?
Dear Editor:
I have been listening and reading about the proposed changes to the governing of the town of Alna. I don’t understand the rush to make these changes especially at a time when we haven’t been able to meet in a large group, due to the pandemic. In a regular town meeting there would be a large group and I have found that with people able a listen to each others ideas we can sometimes come to consensus.
I personally don’t support 3-year terms, what if we get a dud and want to not reelect and have to put up with an extra year! The things I feel are important about our town are keeping taxes as low as possible, educating our children, preserving our history and being a good neighbor to each other. I want my ancestors who lived here before me to know that I am taking good care of what they worked so hard for. What is the rush to change?
