Accident closes part of Route 1, Edgecomb for 5 hours
The cause of Jan. 14’s car accident on Route 1 in Edgecomb was likely driver error, according to Lt. Brendan Kane of Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. An 18-wheeler driven by Jonathan Instasi of Waldoboro heading northbound around 2:31 p.m. collided with Christopher Pennock of Whitefield driving a Volkswagen Gulf which had turned left around the barrier.
“The accident is still under investigation but it seems driver error is the likely cause,” Kane said Jan. 19.
The Volkswagen Gulf was pushed into the other lane and later struck by a Chevy Siveraldo driven by Randall Nicholls of Brooks. Kane reported the Volkswagen Gulf lost its engine and was totaled. Pennock complained of pain and was taken by ambulance to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
Route 1 was closed and traffic was rerouted around the animal shelter off Route 1 until 7:30 p.m., according to Kane.
