Morris Farm holds donkey-naming contest
The Morris Farm Board of Trustees is working hard to bring livestock back to the farm and they need you to help name their newest barnyard member!
Making a surprise appearance early Nov. 22, a beautiful baby miniature donkey was born to Aster, a painted miniature donkey. Aster had just joined the farm the previous Friday and had comfortably settled into her new home. First thought to be due to give birth around Christmas, she surprised all by giving birth right away. The new little girl was born healthy and full of spunk.
The public is being invited to submit names for the new little one. Being run similar to a raffle, “Name the Donkey” tickets are available at the Farm Store. Tickets are a dollar each or six tickets for $5 for children 12 and under, and $5 each or six for $25 for those 12 and older. On each ticket, you will write your choice of name for the little girl and your contact information. The winner will meet the donkeys and be shown how to feed and groom them. Anyone under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to accompany them. Tickets are available during store hours, Monday through Friday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The drawing will be held Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m.
Those not local to the Wiscasset area may submit their name suggestions via mail to Morris Farm Trust, 156 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset, 04578. Please include your name and contact information along with the fee. All proceeds will be used for the donkey’s care. Follow Aster and all of the farm animals on Facebook. The Board of Trustees reserves the right to approve all entries.
