Robert Watts
Robert Watts, 74, of Boothbay Harbor passed away in the early hours of April 27, 2022 at the Sussman Home in Rockport after a long battle with kidney disease.
Born and raised in Boothbay Harbor, Robert was born April 13, 1948 to Nelson (Rowser) and Margaret (Peggy) Watts. He attended local schools, graduating from Boothbay Region High School in 1966. After graduation Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving between 1967 and 1971. While in the Navy he fondly talked about his time sailing through the Straights of Gibraltar and being stationed in Puerto Rico. After his time with the Navy was up, he attended SMVTI (now SMCC). Robert then spent the next 38 years working as a machinist for Bath Iron Works until his retirement in October 2012. In June 1976, Robert married Monona Stover and over the next 45 years the two were inseparable.
Robert enjoyed spending time working in Sprucewold alongside his father where they took care of cottages for many years. This time was very special to Robert as he often talked about spending quality time “in the woods” with his father and close friend Barry Grinnell. Robert enjoyed spending time with friends and family, whether that was going camping or having weekly cookouts at their house. Robert was most proud of his family and loved watching or hearing about what his two granddaughters were doing. He was always one to crack a joke and get the room laughing. Robert also enjoyed going to breakfast, especially when close friend Arnold Thibodeau was there to join him.
Robert is survived by his wife Monona of 45 years; son Robert (Sara); granddaughters Ella and Kayla; special niece Kimberly (Matthew) Poston; and brothers Dwight and Fred.
At Robert’s request there will be no service. Arrangements were entrusted to Direct Cremation of Maine.
