Charles Pike Howe, 84, of Junction Road, Westport Island, died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

He was born in Winchester, Mass., on March 7, 1929, a son of Guy and Carolyn (Dow) Howe.

He graduated from Suffield Academy in Suffield, Conn. and attended Lowell Tech in Lowell, Mass. He served in the U.S. Navy on a destroyer. Upon his military discharge, he began his work career in the Textile Industry in Springfield, Mass.

In 1954 he met Sara Ann Bassett and they were married in the fall of 1955. Following their marriage, he returned to Andover, Mass., and began a 40-year career in sales and service in the equipment industry.

He resided and raised his family in Andover and spent summers on Westport Island. In 1984 he became a permanent resident of Westport Island and was employed by Kennebec Equipment Rental Company until his retirement in 1999.

Charlie was an avid sailor and loved spending time on Knubble Bay.

He was a member of St. Matthews Lodge Masonic Temple in Andover, Mass., Andover Volunteer Fire Department, The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset and Westport Island Community Association.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Ann Howe of Westport Island; one son, Mark Howe and his wife Patty of Dover, Mass.; one daughter, Vicki Hoyt and her husband Brian of Andover, Mass.; and grandsons, Drew, Matt and Chris Hoyt, Nathan and Alex Howe.

Charlie was predeceased by his brother, Guy B. Howe Jr.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
