Dear Editor:

As I look at the field of candidates for the Selectboard, I see that Wiscasset has an opportunity to move forward with three fine young professionals—Sarah Whitfield, Wallace Giakas, and James Andretta. We already know Dr. Whitfield is doing a fine job as chairman of the board -- Sarah knows the problems, she grew up here, and she has experience coming up with solutions. Wally Giakas is an environmental geologist and knows other young professionals who are moving here and starting new businesses. James Andretta also grew up here, and is a civil engineer who helps towns provide clean energy. He wants to attract more energy-related businesses to the town to generate significant tax dollars.

All three of these candidates have spoken to keeping the taxes down and finding new ways to generate a larger tax base with new business.

I think we need the smarts and the energy of this next generation to move forward with better ideas for taking care of the town. I say vote for Sarah, Wally and James.
