Vote ‘yes’ on harbor expansion
Dear Editor:
The modest proposal for the expansion of the Recreational Pier would certainly be a positive move in the right direction for the growth and development of the waterfront. As you may know, tourism has a huge economical impact on our area. The Midcoast region is funded with a grant from the state to promote the area from Brunswick to Searsport. The Chamber has been very active in putting the Wiscasset area in the spotlight and removing the emphasis on Route 1 traffic.
Along with the historic value of the community, we need other things that bring people to our area that help to support our area businesses. Certainly river access is very important to boaters of all kinds. Kayaking, canoeing and sailing are very popular recreational activities that many enjoy. So why not enjoy them on the Sheepscot?
Small improvements will help to insure our longevity and continue to bring for people to town. The Waterfront Committee has worked hard to obtain grants for this project and certainly adding additional slips and improvements to the Harbor Master Building – including renovated bathroom facilities, along with the addition of showers and washer and dryer amenities, will help Wiscasset to bring boaters to the beautiful Sheepscot River which is highly underutilized.
So, please think about our future and what kind of community we will leave behind.
Please vote “yes” on the harbor expansion project on June 14.
