Voting for Holly Stover
Dear Editor:
The communities of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, Southport, Westport Island, and South Bristol have been well-served in the state legislature by Representative Holly Stover. During her two-terms in Augusta, Holly has demonstrated the characteristics people look for in their elected representatives. She listens to all stakeholders and makes decisions based on what’s best for the people she represents. Holly is patient, deliberative, and collaborative with members on both sides of the aisles.
I appointed Representative Stover as chair of the Government Oversight Committee (GOC), because of her respectful and fair approach to governance. The GOC is a unique committee. The membership is evenly split amongst the political parties, and it is charged with ensuring government agencies execute their responsibilities. In addition, it reviews programs like tax credits in order to gauge their performance and outcomes match the program’s intent. Holly is perfect for this job. She asks the right questions to get to the heart of issues and ultimately holds the government accountable for its inaction or misguided actions. The GOC is charged with making sure the government works for the people. Holly serves in the legislature with this same charge—working on issues for the betterment of Mainers.
During her time in office, Holly has championed legislation to address the substance use crisis which has devastated too many Mainers and their families. She also passed a bill strengthening the state’s response to child abuse and neglect. In addition, she has been a steadfast supporter of the environment and our working waterfront. Holly fought for funding to support the lobster industry which was hit hard by the pandemic and erroneous federal regulations. During her time in the legislature, Holly has been responsive to the most pressing issues facing her district.
Holly has worked hard for the people she represents. During the upcoming primary, the choice is clear. Representative Stover has earned a third term in the legislature. I offer my endorsement of her re-election.
