‘Imber's Left Hand’ opens Lincoln Theater's MidCoast Film Festival
Lincoln Theater is pleased to present the third season of the MidCoast Film Fest, playing at the historic theater in downtown Damariscotta the weekend of Friday July 29 through Sunday July 31. This season, the MidCoast Film Fest will screen eighteen original films – feature length, shorts, and documentaries – that are all based on a true story, bringing history to life!
The festival kicks off with an opening reception the evening of Friday, July 29 at 6 p.m., with hors d’oevres, prosecco, and sparkling cider provided by SeaCoast Catering. And we are pleased to announce that “Imber’s Left Hand,” from filmmaker Richard Kane, will be the opening feature of the festival with a screening beginning at 7 p.m.
From the creators of “Truth Tellers” and “I Know A Man… Ashley Bryan” comes “Imber’s Left Hand,” a love story between two artists faced with one’s death and how art and love transform the tragedy into the greatest affirmation of life. The film, described as a “deeply moving story” by Dan Kany of the Maine Sunday Telegram, traces Imber’s life and adaptations, switching from painting with his right hand to his left, then to both as his degenerative condition worsens. Adversity only makes him more determined, creating more than 100 portraits in three months. Since its release in October 2014 the film has traveled to over 25 film festivals worldwide as well as at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and the National Gallery of Australia. Winning four Audience Awards for Best Film, this documentary has proven to be an audience favorite. The film’s director, Richard Kane, co-producer Melody Lewis-Kane, and the film’s co-star, Jill Hoy, will be attending the opening evening of the MidCoast Film Fest and will join us on stage for a talkback following the film.
After a successful launch in 2019, the Lincoln Theater’s MidCoast Film Fest came to a halt when the theater was forced to close in 2020. During that year, the theater upgraded the air filtration system to create the safest space possible for patrons and staff. The upgraded ERV system replaces thirty percent of the air inside the theater every ten minutes with outside air – replacing the inside air entirely with outside air approximately twice every hour. UV filters have also been installed that run constantly and “zap” virus particles. After reopening in March of 2021, Lincoln Theater presented a successful second season of the MidCoast Film Fest that July, and is excited about the slate of films in store for audiences in season number three! These original films from around the globe include stories from Switzerland to Camden Maine and cover a wide range of topics. There is something for everyone in the lineup.
Tickets to the Opening Reception and screening of “Imber’s Left Hand,” as well as tickets for single events, full day passes, and festival passes for the entire weekend are available in advance through the Lincoln Theater website.
