Musical presentation of Ukraine’s national instrument, bandura
Andrea Goodman will give a presentation featuring the bandura, the national instrument of Ukraine. You are invited to join us at Mathias Fine Art on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 4 to 5 p.m. for this special occasion. This event is being held in connection with the group exhibition “BLUE and YELLOW: persist. “ The event is free, but we will pass the hat for Ukraine.
Be prepared to hear Goodman’s unique voice accompanied by the strings of the bandura in a rendition of folk tunes as well as original music by this unique musical talent. You will also learn about the instrument and how our presenter first came into contact with it, fell in love with it, learned to play it and has incorporated it into her musical practice.
Goodman most recently performed as part of the Resonance Residence, a trio collaboration of the combined talents of Goodman in the role of vocalist, trumpeter Mark Tipton and flutist Carl Dimow, with special guest Beau Lisy on percussion at the Portland Conservatory of Music on July 30.
Goodman is no stranger to local audiences, but her reach goes far beyond Maine. She has toured internationally and can only be described as a multi-talented, multi-faceted artist and personality. She has given a performance of her original composition about environmental issues at Mathias Fine Art 22 years ago in connection with a solo exhibition of paintings by Lesia Sochor. This event brings these two artists together once again. Welcome back! More info about Goodman on: www.rubythroatedspirit.com
