Dam Rag Scotta Orchestra to play benefit concert
Join Sean Fleming and his eight-piece Dam Rag Scotta Orchestra for the "Real Ragtime Concert," a collection of classic, early 20th century Rag tunes, on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. at the Union Church of South Bristol.
The concert will feature compositions by Confrey, Hayden, Joplin, Lamb, Morton, Scott, and Shepherd. Included will be several works from the "Red Back Book," a collection of Ragtime orchestral arrangements published in the early 1900s. Upbeat favorites such as Joplin's "The Entertainer," "Maple Leaf Rag," and "The Easy Winners" will be mixed with slower pieces such as Lamb's "Ragtime Nightingale" and Joplin's "Solace." The piano solo "Jelly Roll Blues," an early jazz piece, will be played, as well as the novelty piano piece "Dizzy Fingers," which is played as fast as its title would indicate. This concert is sure to be a favorite for people of all ages!
The Dam' Rag Scotta Orchestra includes the very talented musicians Linda Brunner, flute, Mitch Kihn, clarinet, Peter Stuart, trumpet, Allen Millett, drums, Carol Preston and Helen Newell, violins, Richard Francis, cello, and Doug Kennedy, bass.
Come and help usher in the start of the fall season in the charming Union Church, nestled on beautiful Rutherford Island and found at 2171 ME-129, South Bristol. The concert will be free, with donations accepted to pay for repairs to the Union Church.
Refreshments will be served after the concert in the parish hall opposite the church. For more information, please call Linda Brunner at 207-446-5437.
