This week at Lincoln Theater
The fifth season of Lincoln Theater’s Classic Film Club kicks off this week with “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” returning to the big screen for its 40th anniversary. Bring the whole family to experience the most beloved alien of the past four decades on one of the biggest screens in the state!
“God’s Country” - (R; 1 hour, 42 minutes) - In a rural college town, a grieving former police officer turned college professor gets drawn into an escalating battle of wills when she confronts two hunters she catches trespassing on her property, putting her most deeply held values to the test with catastrophic consequences. Final screening Thursday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m.
“3 on a Match” - (1932; 1 hour, 4 minutes) - Classic Film Club - Mary (Joan Blondell), Vivian (Ann Dvorak) and Ruth (Bette Davis) are old friends. Vivian, married to successful lawyer Robert (Warren William), has the most glamourous life but isn’t satisfied. She soon deserts Robert and her son for mobster Mike, finding herself hooked on drugs. Mike needs cash, and kidnaps Vivian’s son for ransom. Join film historian and CFC host, Jeannie MacDonald, for a pre-film introduction and post-screening talkback. Playing Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m.
“E.T. the Extra Terrestrial” - (PG; 1 hour, 55 minutes) - After a gentle alien becomes stranded on Earth, the being is discovered and befriended by a young boy named Elliott (Henry Thomas). Bringing the extraterrestrial into his suburban California house, Elliott introduces E.T., as the alien is dubbed, to his brother and his little sister, Gertie (Drew Barrymore), and the children decide to keep its existence a secret. Soon, however, E.T. falls ill, resulting in government intervention and a dire situation for both Elliott and the alien. “Dr. Dolittle” – Free Pumpkinfest Family Film (PG; 1 hour, 40 minutes) Come celebrate Pumpkinfest with the entire family at The Lincoln! Dr. John Dolittle (Robert Downey Jr.) lives in solitude behind the high walls of his lush manor in 19th-century England. His only companionship comes from an array of exotic animals that he speaks to on a daily basis. But when young Queen Victoria becomes gravely ill, the eccentric doctor and his furry friends embark on an epic adventure to a mythical island to find the cure. Playing Saturday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. and Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2:30 p.m.
Pumpkinfest Regatta - Live stream - Free - If you’ve never seen the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest Regatta, you are in for a treat! Pumpkinboats (400-700 pound, hollowed out pumpkins) are paddled or motor powered in this famous regatta on the Damariscotta River. Rather than fighting the crowds, you can watch it all live streamed on the big screen! Watch it as it happens, Sunday, Oct. 9 at noon.
