Earl P. Wilder
Earl P. Wilder, 95, of Portsmouth, N.H. and Southport died Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Langdon Place of Portsmouth.
He was born in Somerville, Mass., on July 28, 1917, the son of Sumner A. and Emma Suds (Day) Wilder.
Earl served from April 3, 1944 to April 15, 1946 in the United States Army with the 113th Evacuation Hospital in Europe during World War II.
Prior to his retirement in August of 1974 he was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
He was a longtime member of the Middle Street Baptist Church where he served on various boards and was co-founder of the Middle Street Baptist Church pancake breakfast.
Earl was an avid vegetable gardener, loved neighborhood get-togethers, and spent lots of summer time vacations at his cottage in Southport with family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred June “Millie” Baxter in 2004.
Survivors include three children, Richard C. Wilder of Portsmouth, Suzanne W. Cleveland of Manchester, and David E. Wilder of Portsmouth; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three nephews and two nieces.
Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 28 at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, N.H. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 29 at the Middle Street Baptist Church, 18 Court Street, Portsmouth, N.H.
