‘Nightmare on Federal Street’ fearsome fun for families
There was an excellent turnout again this year for Wiscasset’s Halloween festivities, Nightmare on Federal Street, Monday evening. The event is sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department with the help of the police and fire departments and Wiscasset Area Chamber of Commerce. Community Center volunteer Lisa Gatti expected to hand out all of the 200 donated goodie bags to the costumed trick-or-treaters.
Both young and old enjoyed showing off their costumes in the parade that made its way from Wiscasset Elementary School down Federal Street.
The block party followed. Trick-or-treaters could go house to house collecting treats. Businesses were also there: 40 Federal Studio provided free pizza, nutritious beverages were handed out by Desiree Bailey, owner of Possibilities Nutrition, and Jodie’s Cafe and Bakery donated 400 cookies. A costume contest was held, with prizes. Bob MacDonald returned as the DJ again this year playing spooky tunes and emceeing the event.
The lawns and homes along Federal Street were decorated for Halloween. The lawn at the Octagon House had many pirate-themed decorations including a chest overflowing with treasure and Captain Jack Sparrow passing out candy. At another house, trick-or-treaters had to “walk the plank” to get their treats.
