Fifth 'Champagne on the Sheepscot' fundraiser
Members of the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association are working hard to make the fifth annual Champagne on the Sheepscot event an enjoyable evening. This year the party will be held Saturday, September 14, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., on the grounds of an historic house in Wiscasset offering a beautiful view of the Sheepscot River.
In 2000, retirees Elizabeth and R. Sargent Potter bought the house and property from the estate of landscape architect Wolcott Andrews, whose ancestor Thomas Rice built the house in the 1760s.
The Potters have been lovingly restoring the house and tending its six acres of gardens and fields that overlook White's Island and the tip of Westport Island.
A large tent will be set up for the event. In addition to wonderful company, the event features live music and delectable offerings of hors d'oeuvres and champagne, wine and other drinks. Tickets are $40, or $125 to become a patron of the event, which is SVCA's major annual fundraiser.
There is also a people's choice photography contest, open to all who want to share their favorite images taken in the Sheepscot watershed. Photos will be displayed at the event, and guests will vote for their favorite. The three top winners will each get a cash prize. For details on the photo contest, visit SVCA online at www.sheepscot.org/2013-peoples-choice-photo-contest/.
So mark your calendars and call SVCA at 207-586-5616 for reservations or for more information about any aspect of the event.
The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association is a member organization advocating shared stewardship of Maine's 58-mile Sheepscot River since 1969. Today, more than 3,633 acres and 15 miles of riverfront are protected.
The SVCA's ongoing monitoring of water quality helps ensure the health of the watershed's ecosystems, including its Atlantic salmon habitat. SVCA's mapping services, technical support and educational programs encourage prudent land use so the resources people value today are conserved forever.
