'Form and Flow' new exhibit at River Arts Gallery
Three Nobleboro artists specializing in different artistic mediums will present a joint exhibition of their work at the River Arts Gallery in Damariscotta July 4 through July 17. An opening reception will be held on Friday, July 5 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The show “Form and Flow” features ceramic artist Tom Fontaine, watercolor and pencil artist Wally Schweighauser and photographer Leon Vanella. Each artist brings his or her own unique vision and style, but as each discovered when planning and selecting works for the show, their diverse studies of forms and light have many elements in common and complement each other in surprising ways.
Schewighauser is well-known to local art lovers. Her versatility and extraordinary way of viewing the world around her is demonstrated from the still lifes to the fantastic abstracts in this exhibit. This remarkable woman will turn 101 in September.
Schewighauser has exhibited in galleries in Maine and Massachusetts, and her works are in private collections in the United States and Europe.
Fontaine is a ceramic artist currently working in sculptural porcelain vessels. A potter for over 40 years, Fontaine works primarily with coil and slab-constructed clay vessels. He lived and worked in California, exhibiting his work throughout the west, before moving to Maine in 2001.
Vanella is a versatile photographer with a keen eye for the natural world’s beauty and intricacy. His studies in this show highlight the many shapes and patterns hidden in plain sight all around us, drawing the viewer into the scene and inspiring some of the connection he perceives.
The River Arts Gallery is located at 241 US Route 1 in Damariscotta. For more information, call River Arts at 207-563-1507 or visit www.riverartsme.org.
