Woolwich Selectmen discuss town office addition
The town of Woolwich has been planning to build a new addition to the town office. The 1,800 square foot addition carries a cost of almost $300,000. Before the issue goes before voters at a special town meeting, the board of selectmen discussed the financial options available.
The selectmen have a choice to either borrow a loan from United States Department of Agriculture at an interest rate of 3.75 percent, or be granted a loan from a local bank at 4.14 percent, said Dave King, the chairman of the board.
“The reason why we might consider a local bank is because the USDA will require having an architect on board, and the local bank wouldn't require that, and we could possible save money,” King said.
The town hall addition includes a basement with an elevator accessing the first and second floor, an ADA certified restroom, and an expanded office area for Lynette Eastman, the town administrator.
There will be a public hearing held July 10 at 6 p.m. at the Nequasset Meeting House to allow the public to ask questions to the board of selectmen prior to the Special Town Meeting.
