Kenneth L. Hanson
Kenneth L. Hanson, 89, of Savannah, Georgia, formerly of Boothbay, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2023, with his loving family at his side.
He was the husband of Nancy Hanson. Born on Jan. 30, 1934, in Tucson, Arizona, he was the son of the late Beatrice and Joseph Hanson. He attended local schools and graduated from and pursued post-graduate studies at the University of Arizona, after which he served in the United States Air Force before completing a 32-year career as an engineer with AT&T.
Retiring to Maine, he became a giving member of the Boothbay region community. He was a long-time member of the town of Boothbay Planning Board and donated his time to the Friends of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library Used Book Store and the Boothbay Region Historical Society. An avid amateur historian, he published a 400-page history of Sawyer’s Island.
He was creative and multi-talented, never happier than doing home renovation for his family and others; together with another volunteer he renovated the facade of the Sawyer’s Island Community Association. A life long learner of boundless curiosity, he traveled the world, preparing for trips by learning conversational language of the lands he visited.
In addition to Nancy he is survived by daughters Susan L. (Robert S.) Natalini of Voorhees, New Jersey and Karen E. Hanson of Hamden, Connecticut.
Interment will take place in Boothbay during the coming summer.
