Mail truck accident at Appalachee Pond
A Jeep Wrangler USPS Mail truck operated by Erika Cutter, 28, of Damariscotta went off the road into Appalachee Pond in Boothbay Harbor at approximately 9:45 a.m. on July 9.
Cutter said she had delivered mail to a row of mailboxes, then felt nauseated moments before driving off the narrow embankment by the pond, said Boothbay Harbor Police Officer Richard Mirabile.
The driver's side of Cutter's vehicle was leaning into the pond, but was never submerged.
“She was very fortunate a bystander came over and took the mail out of the passenger side, and helped her out of the vehicle,” Mirabile said.
An EMT from Boothbay Region Ambulance Service arrived at the scene and determined there were no injuries sustained from the accident.
The vehicle remained drivable after Darren Graves from G&G Towing extricated it from the ditch.
“Nothing seemed damaged. Just a little muddy, that's it,” Graves said after jump starting the jeep.
Boothbay Harbor Fire Department and Boothbay Region Water District also responded to scene due to a concern that a waterline might have been damaged during the incident.
