Boothbay Region Garden Club annual Home and Garden Tour
Sprucewold started as a log cabin colony in Boothbay Harbor in 1888. The land was developed by the Boothbay Harbor and Boston Land Companies. Between 1906 and 1913, the development that we know today as Sprucewold was created with roads and divided into plots of land that would create a log cabin community on the peninsula of Spruce Point. The majority of cabins were built in the ’20s and ’30s. It was developed as a summer community meant for enjoying the great outdoors of Maine and getting close to nature. Today, many of the homes have been updated or restored to their original condition and several are year-round properties, but the natural environment is still the same as it was in 1888 with beautiful pine trees, wild turkeys, deer and the tranquil sound of woodcocks set against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Home and Garden Tour is lucky to have Lola’s Lodge, nestled in the spruces and pines, for you to see. We promise it will not disappoint! Lola’s Lodge was neglected for many years and stood uninhabitable until 2017 when a good neighbor bought it and restored the cabin with a new roof and walls. In 2021, it was purchased and upgraded again with a new kitchen and bathroom and was
given an interior design overhaul with cabin chic furnishings and a beautiful lodge chandelier while maintaining the original fireplace. In case you were wondering, the lodge is named after the 10 lb. “spitfire” dog of the owners! Join us for a rare opportunity to see inside one of these historic cabins.
The annual Home and Garden tour is a highlight of the summer season in the Boothbay Harbor area and a great way to gain an insider’s view of the natural beauty that surrounds us.
This year’s tour features five spectacular and fascinating homes and their surrounding gardens; and one beautiful garden. On the tour are architecturally significant homes with incredible views on Linekin Bay, the Damariscotta River and Southport’s Pratt Island, a charming cottage in Sprucewold and an 1840 Greek Cape Revival in Boothbay Harbor.
The mission of the club is to promote interest in the art and practice of gardening, education, and beautification of the Boothbay Region. We provide public buildings with window boxes, wreaths and plants and maintain many public gardens in the area. Scholarships are provided for YMCA camperships and to college students who want to further their education in environmental studies. This Home and Garden Tour helps support and fund our community objectives.
Transportation will be provided on air-conditioned buses to each location on the tour.
Advance tickets are available for $35 at the Boothbay Harbor Chamber of Commerce located at 192 Townsend Avenue. The Chamber’s phone number is 207-633-2353.
