Elizabeth S. Peters
Elizabeth (Liz) Santa Peters, 86, of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, passed away peacefully at St. Andrews Village, on the evening of June 8, 2023.
Liz was born on April 13, 1937, to Helen Santay Riplese and Peter Riplese of Parma, Ohio. She graduated from Lourdes Academy in Cleveland in 1956.
Liz moved to New York City in 1958, where she was employed as a legal secretary.
She worked on John F. Kennedy’s campaign and was appointed to New York’s Electoral College during the election of 1960. In 1964, Liz volunteered in the hospitality booth at the World Fair and welcomed people of all countries to NYC. Liz loved life and wanted to live it to her fullest. She was active with her Catholic faith her entire life. She was fond of movies, the theater, reading, art, history, politics, gardening, she was a gifted piano player. Elizabeth could have a discussion with anyone about any subject matter. Talking about her children was her favorite conversation.
Liz traveled to Boothbay Harbor in 1969 for a summer vacation where she met Leo M. Peters. The following summer they were married on June 27, 1970. The wedding was held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Boothbay Harbor. The couple made their home on Lobster Cove Road and raised their family.
Liz was pre-deceased by her parents, her sister Patricia Mount of Cope, South Carolina, her sister Diane Gierlach of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and her son, Phillip Peters, of Boothbay.
Liz is survived by her daughter Catherine, and her husband Gary Laweryson, of Jefferson, Maine and their children Lindsay, Gabriel, Emily and Gavin; son, Michael, and his girlfriend Lisa Latourette, of Boothbay; daughter, Theresa Peters of Southport, North Carolina and her daughters Eleana and Carmen; son, Daniel Peters of Damariscotta, Maine; their father, Leo M. Peters; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply.
Our family is deeply grateful to the wonderful staff at St. Andrews Village, for the compassionate care they gave our mother. We thank you all so very much.
Liz will be laid to rest at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Boothbay Harbor next to her son, Phillip, by her immediate family.
