Malcolm Andrews
Malcolm “Mac” Andrews passed peacefully at home on July 9, 2023.
Mac was born in Boothbay Harbor on Dec. 14, 1931, the first born child of Emerson (Bud) Andrews and Catherine (Lewis) Andrews of Boothbay Harbor and later of North Newcastle, Maine. He was an avid sports fan playing basketball, baseball, and football throughout his high school years.
After high school, he joined the Army and became a member of the 508th Airborne Division. He made many lifelong friends and continued to keep in touch with them throughout the years. They would often discuss the most harrowing experience of a jump they made in San Angelo, Texas known as, “Exercise Long Horn.” It was the biggest U.S. Air Force-Army maneuver in history which included 3,120 officers and men.
Mac returned to Boothbay Harbor in 1954 to raise his family and worked numerous jobs in the region before operating his own business, Andrews Gulf Service, known as Good ’N You Mobil today. He remained working at the gas station until the COVID pandemic struck and then he retired.
He still loved being on his son, Daniel’s, lobster boat helping his “boys.” Family celebrations where everyone could be together meant so much to him. Mac was truly the patriarch of the family, a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and as a friend to many. He loved hearing people’s stories and assisting others if he could be of help. He loved his community and never dreaded going to work. Many people from “away” that summered here sent a yearly Christmas card ending with, “See you this summer.”
Surviving Mac are his wife of 55 years, Pam; sons Michael of Phenix City, Alabama, Timothy of Boothbay Harbor, Daniel of Boothbay Harbor, Chad of Sebring, Florida, and a daughter, Kristin Manowski of North Newcastle. He leaves seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one great-grandson being born on July 14, five days after his death. He also will be missed by his loyal, tiny “Yorkie” Phoebe and a spunky cat, Sky. His love for animals was well known and his pockets were always full of dog biscuits for his canine friends.
Per Mac’s wishes there will be no funeral. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Should friends desire memorial donations may be made to the local animal shelter in his memory.
