Coastal Boatworks & Storage in Newcastle under new ownership
Last July, Coastal Boatworks & Storage in Newcastle was sold to Mid-Coast Properties. Jim and Liz Duffy of Boothbay Harbor own Mid-Coast Properties which includes Boothbay Self-Storage, Wiscasset Self-Storage and Sabattus Street Self-Storage in Lewiston. Manager Linda Flagg is in charge of all four properties. She said nothing has changed about Coastal Boatworks and Storage, which at 1155 U.S. Route 1. The business provides many services such as renting portable storage units and providing camper, vehicle and boat storage, boat and vehicle winterization and boat repairs.
“We kept the name and the business was in line with what we were already doing with our three other storage businesses,” Flagg said. “Business has been good. We have a great relationship with the previous owners, Bucky and Pauline Holloway, and many of their customers have continued doing business with us.”
This is Flagg’s eighth year working for Mid-Coast Properties. She has one full- and one part-time employee. She enjoys working for a family-owned organization. “It’s a definite plus. The Duffys are great people to work for. It’s probably why I’ve stayed for so long,” she said.
The past 12 months have been a time for engaging with new and old customers, and learning a new aspect of the boat business. “We have been quite busy. The biggest challenge has been learning the boating business, but everything has gone quite well,” she said. Flagg described the Newcastle location as a prime location for boat storage with their heated 40-foot by 8-foot unit. “Stoarge is hard to find on the Midcoast, and even harder to find a heated one,” she said. ‘We want to let the public know about the new ownership and that we still offer the same great services.”
Coastal Boatworks has sold three boats this year and has two for sale – a 1988 Mako with a new Suzuki motor, and a 2005 Pompano which had one previous owner. Contact Coastal Boatworks at 207-350-6987.
