Barrett W. Gilchrist
Barrett W. “Barry” Gilchrist, 61, of Weston, Massachusetts died peacefully on Aug. 8, 2023 following a courageous and dignified battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Barry was born in Newton, Massachusetts on Feb. 25, 1962, the son of Barrett Lewis Gilchrist of Concord, New Hampshire and Bayville, Maine formerly of Wellesley and the late Deborah Stafford Gilchrist.
Barry is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years Jennifer Kolsti Gilchrist of Weston. Beloved father of Stephanie G. Maloney, her husband Michael J. Maloney and their children Rory B. Maloney and Cameron A. Maloney all of Kittery, Maine, and Barry’s son Jeffrey M. Gilchrist of Waltham, Massachusetts. He was the brother of Pamela G. Munnell and her husband Hamilton H. Munnell of Concord, New Hampshire. Uncle of Brittany H. Munnell, and Christopher H. Munnell. Also survived by his uncle and aunt, David and Charlotte Stafford of Sudbury, Massachusetts, and many cousins.
Barry was a long-time resident of Weston and spent his formative years in Waban. He was a graduate of The Rivers School in Weston. He spent summers working on the docks at the Tugboat Marina in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. For over 35 years, prior to his retirement in 2020, Barry was a manager and buyer at B.L. Ogilvie & Sons of Weston. He was an on-call fireman and a Measurer of Lumber for the town of Weston. He coached and served as Commissioner of Weston Little League for many years. Barry had a strong passion for assisting with the planning and implementation of events wherever he went, be it helping coordinate the annual Fireman’s Ball at Pine Brook Country Club, helping stock and facilitate the annual Fishing Derby, or gathering large groups of friends for the Gilchrists’ festive Christmas parties at the Josiah Smith Tavern. Barry’s powerful personality, wit, and charisma was spread to all attending and involved.
Driving around town or walking in the town forest Barry almost always had one of his many beloved golden retrievers by his side over the years. Barry will be remembered, respected and loved by all who had the opportunity to know him.
A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date in Weston.
In lieu of flowers, his family kindly suggests that gifts in Barry’s memory may be sent to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or the Bayville Improvement Assoc., 27 Virginia St., Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
