Event Date

We invite you to join us on Sunday, August 27th for John Huston’s restored 1956 MOBY DICK, presented by David Peloquin. Peloquin is an independent Melville scholar specializing in symbolic aspects of “Moby-Dick”. Earlier on the day of the screening at 5pm, David will hold an informal 45-minute talk with Q&A on Huston, Melville, and the Ray Bradbury screenplay version before the showing. As part of the talk, Peloquin, an historic interpreter of 19th century maritime music, will offer snatches of sea songs and chanteys that can be heard in the film.

Moby Dick is a 1956 color film adaptation of Heman Melville's 1851 novel Moby-Dick. It was directed by John Huston with a screenplay by Huston and Ray Bradbury.

Capt. Ahab (Gregory Peck) has a vendetta against Moby Dick, the great white whale responsible for taking his leg. He sets out on a treacherous sea voyage aboard The Pequod, along with a crew including Starbuck (Leo Genn), Father Mapple (James Robertson Justice) and Ishmael (Richard Basehart), to hunt down the elusive beast. With reckless abandon, Ahab leads the crew on his obsessive and suicidal quest, anxious for a final showdown with the legendary white whale. Join us for a special deep dive into this remastered version of John Huston’s MOBY DICK.
