Samuel James Barter Sr. 78, of Wiscasset, passed away Sept. 14, 2023 at his home after a brief illness. Sam was born Jan. 13, 1945 in Boothbay to Warren and Florence (Emerson) Barter.

He grew up in Boothbay and attended local schools. In 1965 he married RoseMary Sprague. Sam worked for Mill Cove Lobster for 50+ years delivering and cutting fish.

He enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Patriots, NASCAR and spending time with his family.

Sam is survived by his wife of 58 years Rose; his son Michael and wife Annette; daughter Rachel and husband Marc; son Sam and wife Beth; seven grandchildren, Sandy, Heather, Christina, Michell, Devin, Brogan and Madison; and two great-grandchildren, Peytyn and Therin. Sam is also survived by sisters, Roxeanne Reed, Terry Little, Libby Dobson, Polly Brewer; brothers, Gregory Barter, Ernie Barter, Stanley Barter and their families. Besides his parents, Sam was predeceased by his grandson Dalton Maldovan, sister Elaine Dickenson, and brother Tom Barter.

There will be a celebration of life Saturday, Dec. 2 at the KP Hall in Boothbay from 2 to 4 p.m. All are welcome.
