Midcoast Senior College rolls out Winter Wisdom 2024
Midcoast Senior College has an exciting free lecture series in store for January and February 2024! The first Winter Wisdom will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Brunswick. After that, each Winter Wisdom presentation will be held at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick on Wednesdays from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Further details may be found at the website: midcoastseniorcollege.org. Jan. 10
Duo Mundi George and Gull Immigration and Opportunity Music Inspired by Elsewhere with George Lopez and Gull Mahamuti: This piano recital and lecture will highlight music written by composers whose immigration experience and interest in musical cultures other than their own significantly impacted their works.

The History and Future of Maine Land Conservation with Tim Glidden: This lecture will explore the future challenges Maine faces from climate change and potential climate-driven immigration as it impacts the future of land conservation.

Maine’s German POW Camps in World War II with David Greenham: Between 1944 and 1946, more than 4,000 German prisoners of war called Maine home. This presentation will tell the story of how the POWs arrived and the lasting impact they had on the people of Maine.

A Scientist and an Artist Met in the Woods with Barbara Snapp: A lifelong scientist who has found harmony with art since retiring, Barbara will tell her personal story of how her exploration in science became enriched by art.
Feb. 7
Maine Civil War History with Heather Moran: The impact of the Civil War on Maine will be discussed using the collections of the Maine State Archives, the most comprehensive collection of Civil War documents of any state.
Feb. 14
Preserving the Dark Skies of Maine with Rob Burgess: This talk will explain the “dark sky” movement and efforts around the world to address light pollution and, importantly, what we can do in our homes and communities to mitigate it.
