Britten's ‘Ceremony of Carols’ and other seasonal tunes on Dec. 28-30
The Ladies of the Amethyst Project, anchored by the professional singers of the Amethyst Chamber Ensemble, perform Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols” and other seasonal tunes at three locations in Falmouth, Newcastle and Portland. Sean Fleming will be the accompanist, on organ and piano, for all three performances.
Founded in 2018 by soprano Mary Sullivan, mezzo-soprano Joelle Morris, and pianist Scott Nicholas, the Amethyst Chamber Ensemble breathes fresh life into the music of the great masters and explores the unexpected connections between them and other works, both ancient and contemporary, and across a wide variety of genres. Lyrical, bold, engaging, and sometimes provocative, these intimate, salon-style performances are accessible to all ages, and appealing to both the chamber music lover and those who are exploring the form for the first time.
Starting 15 minutes before each performance a pre-concert talk on ancient tunes and texts will be given by Mary Sullivan. Come hear this gorgeous and inspiring music performed by a small vocal chamber ensemble, in some of the most beautiful churches in Maine.
