Fine art auction August 24-25 in Thomaston
An extensive collection of fine art, encompassing everything from old master works to fine Maine paintings, will be featured in Thomaston Place Auction Galleries Summer Auction on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25. The auction will begin at 11 a.m. on both sale days.

“The amazing masterpieces on display in our gallery, complimented by great pieces of folk art and other decorative treasures, will take your breath away,” said Thomaston Place owner and auctioneer Kaja Veilleux.
Leading the fine art category will be a large oil on canvas painting by Rockwell Kent (NY, 1882-1971) entitled ‘West Greenland Landscape, 1929.’
A huge contingent of Maine art and artists will be represented in this sale, with works by: Marguerite Zorach (NY/ME, 1887-1968), William Zorach (NY/ME, 1887-1966), Andrew George Winter (NY/ME, 1893-1958), Percy Sanborn (ME, 1849-1929), Alfred Cheney Chadbourn (ME, 1921-1998), Alfred Thompson Bricher (NY/NH, 1837-1908), Carl Sprinchorn (ME, 1887-1971), Paul Stone (ME, contemporary), William (Horace) Muir (ME, 1902-1964), Seth W. Steward (ME, 1844-1927), Parker Gamage (ME, 1882-1960), Barbara Applegate (ME, contemporary), Philip Barter (ME, 1936 - ), Bernard Langlais (ME/NY, 1923-1977), Carroll Thayer Berry (ME, 1886-1978), and many others.
Seven tall case clocks will be sold, including: a flame birch and Birdseye maple clock by Frederick Wingate of Augusta, Maine, built in 1811 for Mr. Stackpole of Thomaston; and two early New Hampshire clocks by Concord makers: one by Levi & Abel Hutchins, circa 1790, and one by Timothy Chandler, circa 1800. Two Maine made Federal Period clocks will also be offered, a mirror clock by James Cray of Brunswick (1806-50), and a banjo clock by Edward S. Morrill of Saco.
The large selection of estate jewelry will include several pieces by Tiffany & Co., such as an 18K gold, ruby and diamond flexible link bracelet. There will also be an 18K white gold, diamond and pink sapphire necklace, a ladies ring with oval natural Ceylon cabochon sapphire surrounded by old mine cut diamonds and set in platinum, and a Cartier French hallmarked 18K gold cigarette case set with blue cabochon sapphire on the clasp.
