The photos and pastels of Kim Traina
“The Magic Hour: A Photography and Pastel Exhibit,” by Edgecomb artist Kim Traina, is on exhibit at the Pemaquid Watershed Association (PWA) office gallery.
The show opened on August 5 and will run through September 13. The public is invited to a wine and cheese opening reception for Traina on Friday, Aug. 9, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at PWA.
In her career as a graphic designer and photographer, her toolbox has evolved from creating things by hand and developing images in the darkroom, to creating on the computer. As much as technology has opened a whole new world of creative tools, she still loves working with her hands.
Three years ago she started working with pastels. She loves the intensity of the color, the ability to layer, and the fell of the medium as she works.
“With both photography and pastels, for me, it is about capturing the quality of light, feeling and essence of nature,” Traina said. “Making art is soul food for me — being outdoors, connecting with nature, creating in my studio, losing all sense of time and place. Clearing away the clutter and focusing on the essence of the person, place or moment is what fuels my passion to communicate.”
The PWA office gallery is located above the Salt Bay Cafe on Main Street in Damariscotta. In addition to the opening reception, the exhibit may be viewed weekdays, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For more information, call 207-563-2196 or visit www.pemaquidwatershed.org. Traina is donating 35 percent of proceeds from sales to support PWA’s mission of conserving the natural resources of the Pemaquid peninsula.
