Open Hive Day in Newcastle June 29
The Knox Lincoln County Beekeepers (KLCB) is pleased to announce an Open Hive Day at Jane Dunstan’s home on Saturday, June 29. Maine State Apiarist and Bee Inspector, Jenn Lund, will be leading the group inspecting a number of Jane’s hives. This is a great opportunity for all beekeepers to compare early season build-up in their hives and learn more about actions to be taken early in the season to guarantee a great honey crop and a healthy bee population throughout the summer. Learn how to spot a poor performing queen and boost a weaker hive with resources from stronger hives. There will be a potluck lunch following the hive opening and we encourage beekeepers to bring food to share. The event starts at 10 a.m. and is located at Jane Dunstan’s home at 612 North Newcastle Road, Newcastle.
This a great opportunity to meet local beekeepers and learn more about the art and science of keeping bees healthy and productive. You will have a more beautiful garden, as well as your neighbors’ gardens within a 2 mile radius of your hives. Feel good about building a connection to nature and become more attuned to our changing climate, pesticide usage and natural habitat lose.
Please visit the KLCB website, https://www.klcbee.com/, to register for this event and look over some of our other events taking place this summer and fall. We believe that honey bees play a vital role in our ecosystem, and that it is our responsibility as beekeepers to protect and nurture them. We are all part of nature and we should be taking care of it. By working together, we can make a difference in our communities and ensure a bright future for honey bees and the people who care for them.
We look forward to seeing you on June 29 and bring your protective gear.
